The movie is one of four “big projects” done to honor Shigeru Mizuki’s birth 100 years ago. She died in 2015 when she was 93 years old. A new cartoon called Akuma Kun aired on Netflix on November 9 as another project.

Kitarō Tanjō

The sixth version of GeGeGe no Kitarō, the newest anime, started airing in April 2018 and took the place of Dragon Ball Super in the same time spot. The last episode of the show aired in March 2020. The show was streamed on Crunchyroll as it played.

Kitarō was played by Miyuki Sawashiro, and Medama Oyaji was played by Masako Nozawa. Both will play the same parts in the movie, but Nozawa is listed as “Kitarō’s Father” instead of Medama Oyaji.

Mizuki’s manga, which started in 1959 with the title Hakaba Kitarō, has been turned into seven TV shows, one anime, several animated movies, and two live-action pictures. One of the main characters in the stories is a boy who is neither human nor magical.
