One Piece Draws Inspiration For Gear Five From Another Renowned Manga

The big reveal of Gear Five in One Piece may have been new, but the recent popularity of a character with a very similar power makes it seem like One Piece may have taken Gear Five from another well-known manga. Takaba Fumihiko, the funny hero of Jujutsu Kaisen, has finally come to the public’s attention, and his Cursed Technique might even make Luffy look bad.

Takaba and his Cursed Technique were first shown a long time before Gear Five, but the comic was quickly pushed to the background as the Culling Game and other more interesting events in Jujutsu Kaisen at the time took center stage. However, Takaba has finally joined the fight against Kenjaku in the most recent chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen. This has given fans a chance to see how far his Cursed Technique can go and how ridiculously it can work.

Fans clearly really liked Takaba’s fight against Jujutsu Kaisen’s Kenjaku, and Chapter #242 really shows how creative the author Gege Akutami is, as well as how silly Takaba’s Cursed Technique is, as this X user @jNelajus points out in their post. The fact that Takaba can freely change reality and that his so-called attacks are so funny makes me wonder how his Cursed Technique would work against Luffy’s Gear Five form.

Takaba From Jujutsu Kaisen Exhibits Greater Toon Force Than Luffy

No matter how silly Luffy’s powers are, his Devil Fruit still only changes the shape of himself, other people, and things around him in Gear Five. Toon power is definitely in Luffy’s possession since he has done amazing things like making lightning and the floor appear like a carpet out of nothing. He seems to be able to change reality and the rules of physics up to this point, though. When it comes to changing reality, Takaba’s Cursed Technique is better than Gear Five’s because Takaba can make scenarios come true and switch between worlds almost without a hitch.

Even though Luffy is stronger than Takaba, it would be hard to say what would happen if they actually met. One thing that is certain is that Luffy and Takaba would like each other, and the fight would be very silly and fun to watch.

Takaba And The Gear Five Of Luffy Have An Underappreciated Part

In both of their stories, Takaba and Gear Five seem to do the same thing, which is to lighten up an extremely tense mood. At the very end of the Wano Arc, which had been the most exciting and dangerous in the story so far, Luffy’s Gear Five made its debut. An interview with Oda himself revealed that he made Gear Five to keep One Piece fun and to break the rules of shonen battles. Also, Takaba’s return to the show happened at a very important time, when fans were still upset about Gojo’s death and getting ready for the worst.

One Piece

There has been a big change in tone in Jujutsu Kaisen thanks to Takaba’s funny antics and the ridiculous fight against Kenjaku. The most recent chapters have brought back Jujustu Kaisen’s famously lost humor, and fans seem to have liked the break. Comedic characters like Luffy and Takaba are a breath of fresh air in a world where sad fights and incredibly dark undertones are slowly becoming the standard. Fans can only hope that both Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece continue to surprise fans in the same way.
